Hello, 2017
My mindset for 2017 is the pursuit of experiences (in terms of family outings, entertainment, challenges, and more things than I can name), goals based on my current career trajectory (becoming a psychologist), and my mental and physical health (Graduating from UCLA last year really did a number on my mind/body). Regarding experiences, this means really planning out trips to the museums, games, attending little parties I normally opt out of, and having/going to game nights so that I am more balanced as I tend to let my social anxiety take over and feel a bit perturbed whenever I can’t read books :)
That said, my #NewYearsResolution is to read 100 books! I had planned to last year, but between reading for school, and my brain being shot to hell, that just did not even come close to happening. I purchased a Kindle this year so that I could more easily attain this goal as I find myself preferring to read books on there than becoming a mindless zombie on my iPhone (I’ll be reading a Kindle book on there, then get a text, then check Facebook, email, etc., without even knowing what happened, as we all have).
And more broadly, I plan to tidy up/minimalize my life: our home, our bills, and my way of being (sounds good). My wife bought me Marie Kondo’s “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” to help me out with this, and we’ve already gone through our various bills to see what we can live without (e.g., our satellite package just got trimmed by $30! I can live without 7 ESPN channels I never watched).
These goals/resolutions are a vague, but I have a more specific understanding of what these are and will look like; I just want to get them out there. Wish me luck!
